Eastwood Elementary Library Corner

Mrs. Hollingsworth

First of all, let me welcome back all the returning students and give a welcome to all new students.  We are so very glad to see their smiling faces at Eastwood and I look forward to working with each of them.

Library is set to begin the week of September 4th.  During our first time periods in library we will be going over items such as check out procedures, book care, and library rules.  These items will help your student to know where to find the books that they will be reading and how to get the best use out of the library.

Kindergarten students begin with a check out allowance of one book a week, while upper grades advance to two books.  When this book(s) is returned at their next library visit, they can choose another to check out.  If, however, they forget their book at home they will not choose an additional book the day of library.

When books get lost or damaged this needs to be reported to me as soon as possible.  This does happen from time to time, and can be taken care of by simply finding or paying for the book.  When this is taken care of, your child can continue to choose items as normal.  It is not the intention of the school that any child not be able to fully utilize their school library.  If this is a situation that your child finds himself in, please help your child take responsibility for the loss.

When a student has a larger book that they cannot finish in one week’s time, they may renew that book.  In order to renew the item, however, it must be brought into the library so that a new due date can be placed on the date slip.  When a book isn’t brought in for renewal, it is considered late, and a late notice is issued.  Late notices are distributed after each library visit and should serve as reminders of a past due book.
