Library Corner
March 2007
This year is moving ahead quickly. We have done a lot in the library so far this year, and I’d like to give an update on a couple of those items. There have been a total of 500 new hardback books placed since the school year began. New paperbacks have totaled 163 books. This adds up to a total of 663 new books, and a lot of good reading to be shared by all in the Eastwood Library. These books are purchased using budgeted monies, grants, and earned by having book fairs. Speaking of book fairs, we have had one book fair so far this year, with our next book fair planned for the end of April and into the first week of May. This book fair will be a ”buy one, get one free” fair. I know the students will be excited about that. Our goal is always to plan a book fair around the parent-teacher conference times of the year in an effort to make it convenient for parents to stop in. This is also a good opportunity for us as parents to support the individual classes by purchasing a book of our student’s choice for their class.
If your student has an unreturned book, please make every effort to either find or pay for that item. It is important for our students to take responsibility for their items and just as important for us to set the example of caring about that responsibility.
Our first graders and kindergarten students read about items that sometimes affect their lives this month. “My Tooth Is Loose” is a book by Martin Silverman that many of our students could relate to. Many of us have a grumpy morning from time to time, so the book titled “The Grumpy Morning” by Pamela Duncan Edwards was fun to read. We then moved to the area of manners with our reading and finished the month with a book from the Courteous Kids series of books titled “Please”. It had three different stories of playtime and home life and showed the importance of remembering the small things like please and waiting our turn.
Third grade students finished the book “Parachuting Hamsters and Andy Russell” by David Adler. We now know that Jason was the culprit who tossed the parachuting hamsters over the balcony, among many other deeds. We had suspected this was true, but it was a lot of fun putting the clues together to solve the case along with Andy and Tamika.
Remember – Books make great Easter gifts!!!!
