ISAT
The Illinois State Achievement Test is quickly approaching – it is one month away! ISAT will be administered the week of March 3 – 7, with any makeup tests given the following week. Regular attendance is extremely important the week of ISAT. If possible, please schedule appointments around that week.
Eastwood students will participate in the ISAT incentive contract again this year. We will be providing lunch from McDonalds for students who
· In the four-day window, do not have any unexcused absences or tardies.
· Display effort-DO MY BEST ON THE TEST!
· Have good behavior during each session of the ISAT Test.
· Listen and complete all directions for the ISAT Test.

ISAT Tips for Students/Parents

Preparing for Tests
· Be rested and comfortable. If you take a test when you are hungry or tired, you won't perform well.
· Know what to expect. Learn ahead of time the kind of test you will be taking, where and when it will be held, and what materials to bring. Arrive on time to avoid last-minute pressure.
· Expect some anxiety. Being concerned will help you do your best on a test.
Avoid worried test-takers. Extreme nervousness, called test anxiety, will interfere with your work. Remember, test anxiety is contagious and unproductive.
Reducing Test Anxiety
· Keep a positive attitude. Decide to do your best, and don't blame yourself for what you don't know.
· Concentrate on the test. Don't worry about your ability, the behavior of other people, the number of questions, or even short memory lapses. Pay close attention to one question at a time. This kind of concentration reduces anxiety.
· Relax. If you are too nervous to think or read carefully, try to slow down physically. Change your mood by taking several slow, deep breaths. Then start to work.

Test Taking Skills
· Pay special attention to words that are CAPITALIZED, underlined, or BOLD face type. The word is a clue to the correct answer.
· Cross out any answers you know are wrong. You will have fewer answers to think about.
· If more than one answer seems possible, ask yourself which answer is true more often or which answer makes the most sense.
· Think like a scientist. Remember the steps a scientist must follow to do an experiment.
· Read any titles, labels, or explanations on diagrams. If symbols are used, make sure you understand what they mean.
