Dear Parents/Guardians:

Winter is fast approaching, and along with it comes the potential for inclement weather and travel concerns. To that end, please review procedures for school cancellation due to inclement weather. The District will send an all call to families and post school information via the following: district website, twitter and facebook; FOX 2; KMOV 4; and KSDK 5 to notify families of school cancellation, altered bus schedules or E-Learning Day due to inclement weather.

The all-call system will utilize contact information that the District currently has on file. Revised or updated contact information should be provided to your child’s school.  The following notification procedures will support the broadcast system:

  • the decision to have an E-Learning day or cancel school will be made by 6:00 a.m., if possible.

  • on days that it may be necessary to alter the bus schedule because of inclement weather, the decision will be made as early as possible. Parents are encouraged to make arrangements to meet their children in the event of altered bus schedule days.

  • parents may also check the district website at www.easd13.org for the most up-to-date information.

Instead of extending the school year due to inclement weather, we are excited to continue learning opportunities by having E-Learning days for all students in the three surrounding districts:  Wood-River Hartford #15, East Alton #13, and East Alton-Wood River High School #14.  The expectation is that students still engage in learning activities while away from campus on an E-Learning Day.  We have used research about learning and technology to inform decision making and therefore want to share that learning expectations will be different depending on your child’s grade level.  Please click here to read the full East Alton District 13 E-Learning plan.  Many students will be required to complete assignments given through google classroom and/or hand-outs.  Some students may be required to log-on via google-meets and learn face-to-face with their teacher and peers during a scheduled time for instruction and/or intervention.  Be sure to read all information sent from your child’s teacher and principal.  If your student is asked to be live, online, with his/her teacher, internet accessibility is required as well as an electronic device.  We will make every effort to monitor the weather and send home devices, if needed, when we can predict inclement weather.

If you have any questions about the notification process, please call your child’s school.

Please rest assured that the District will take all necessary precautions to transport students safely to and from school and home. Thank you for your continued support.

Respectfully,

Nancy Werden

Superintendent of Schools
